Measuring Success in Crisis...

“I’m just afraid we will make a mistake.”

My answer, “We will.  Let’s just not make the wrong ones.”

My measurement on this one month anniversary of the horrific act of violence on our campus is this…

  1. Did we honor our Savior.

  2. Did we keep our core values.

These I will say no to…

  1. Did we avoid mistakes

  2. Did we avoid missing things.

One can never endure, navigate, or survive crisis unscathed by mistakes and missing “things,” but it is possible to stumble through it honoring our Savior and keeping our core values.

How?

All I can say is that we stayed connected to our Savior and turned our ear in His direction for instruction, because we could have done a lot of things, but what mattered to us was doing what He deemed to be a necessary.

We kept our quiet times with the Lord, and we let him slow the pace of our hearts and calm the incessant, “Are we doing enough?” voice in our heads…and believe it or not, we still made mistakes…communication errors, follow up errors, logistical errors, etc… and even still, God did the miraculous through our fumbling and stumbling…because that is what He is good at.
