What felled trees cannot do...

It felt as if trees were being intentionally felled in front of us and obstructing our paths as we started the school year.

We arrived on campus the first day of school to find out that we were not a club…meaning we could not table on campus which after 13 years has proven to be the most effective way to reach new students.  Somehow the clubs office had not approved even one club for the year. This is not normal at all.  While every other club on every other campus in America were promoting, we weren’t allowed to so we complied, grumbled to ourselves quite loudly, pivoted, and prayed.

We created other opportunities for meeting students as they walked on to campus from their apartments and just kept trying even though it felt as if we were fighting an uphill battle.

Our first event of the year was ice blocking, homemade root beer and pizza.  Ice blocking is when you sit on a block of ice at the top of the hill and sled down with the ice as your sled.  It is as crazy, fun, and a tiny bit dangerous as you assume.  (There is a video of it on my Lemon-aids group on FB.)

At the park we were at, behind a grove of trees, there was a birthday party set up.  We paid no attention to it until three girls from the birthday party arrived and asked what we were doing.  One of them happened to be a UVU student and just moved from Texas a couple days before.

They wanted to give it a try so we let them.  We mentioned who we were and said to check us out… which doesn’t usually come to anything.

Unbeknownst to us, one of our student leaders had gotten her “insta” and messaged her.

She arrived at our last large group meeting with the student leader…and after a message about being reconciled to God raised her hand for salvation.  This girl, who happened to move from Texas a couple days before and was a UVU student and was at an impromptu birthday party (of a girl she did not know) which happened to be by our event approached us and now is a part of the family of God.

You can’t make these things up.  Just like fences cannot keep out or contain the gospel, neither can felled trees.
